The Mission Gets a Facelift

First Bible Church, under the leadership of Scott Segars, hosted a clean-up, spruce-up, mulch-the-plants day at the mission on Saturday, June 14. Scott planned to grill hamburgers and hotdogs, but more volunteers showed up than expected, so all work was completed by 9:30 a.m. Fortunately, the food was left at the mission, which allowed the residents to enjoy several cook-outs. Members participating were Executive Pastor Vance Helms, Marsha Keeney, Adrian Baker, Brad Richards, Karen Rector, Brenda Miller, Glenn Whiteside, Allen Bishop, Kevin Burleson, Noah Burleson, Joseph Burleson, Craig Naylor, Steve and Carol Atchley, Guy Brown, Barry Gosnell, Savannah and Sydney Segars, Ray Cain, Ashley McIntyre and Sheree Hutchens.

This industrious group also planned to sort donations in our warehouse, but I was unable to attend because I was sick—and I had the keys to the warehouse! Later in the week, however, Jessica Bankester, also of First Bible Church, volunteered, and she and my granddaughter, Brittany Wood, did quite a lot of organizing. This project is on hold at present, pending the construction of additional shelving. Several First Bible members have signed up to help. We’re looking forward to a continued relationship with these fine folks. Please view our grounds below.

A Nice Place to Dwell

view from side towards TVO front door TVO’s grounds are slowly being developed into a beautiful, peaceful place for our residents as they grow into independent citizens. Most are surprised when they see the view from the recreation shelter.

This progress did not come without some hard work, and we still have a long way to go. The next items include washing and painting our building. Then we’ll do additional landscaping and enclose the back area with more fencing.

Stop by and see.
